The highly anticipated iPhone 18 Pro lineup, along with the new iPhone Duo, was unveiled on September 9 at Apple's "Surprise and Shine" event at Apple Park in Cupertino, California. The event marked the first major iPhone launch under Apple's newly appointed CEO, John Ternus.
The new lineup brings significant upgrades to the camera, processor, battery life, cellular modem, and thermal management compared to the previous generation. iPhone 18 Series Specs and Features
The iPhone 18 Pro lineup retains the familiar screen sizes, with the iPhone 18 Pro featuring a 6.3-inch display and the iPhone 18 Pro Max carrying a 6.9-inch display. Both models feature a Super Retina XDR OLED display with ProMotion adaptive refresh rates of up to 120Hz and up to 3,000 nits of peak outdoor brightness.
The Dynamic Island has also been redesigned, allowing users to see up to three Live Activities simultaneously and access more information at a glance. Both models feature a durable aluminum unibody design with Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and Ceramic Shield on the back, along with an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.
Camera
One of the major highlights of the series is its new 48MP Fusion Main camera with a variable aperture. Both the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max allow the aperture to adjust automatically according to lighting and depth-of-field requirements, while users can also manually choose between four settings—ƒ/1.48, ƒ/1.8, ƒ/2.8 and ƒ/4.0.
At ƒ/1.48, Apple claims around 50% better low-light performance, making it useful for indoor and low-light photography. The camera also offers Pro controls for adjusting shutter speed, white balance, and viewing the histogram. Alongside the main camera, both models feature a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide and a 48MP Fusion Telephoto camera, with up to 8x optical-quality zoom.

Performance
A major upgrade in the new lineup comes from Apple's A20 Pro chip, built using the latest 2-nanometer process technology. The chip features a 6-core CPU, a 7-core GPU with Neural Accelerators, and a dual 16-core neural engine.
Apple says the A20 Pro delivers up to 40% faster graphics performance compared with the previous-generation iPhone 17 Pro, while its Neural Engine offers twice the compute power for on-device intelligence. The chip also features 50% higher memory bandwidth, helping it handle demanding AI workloads more efficiently.
To manage heat during intensive tasks, Apple has incorporated a next-generation vapor chamber. The new thermal system enables up to 40% higher sustained performance compared with the previous generation, allowing the phone to maintain high performance for longer during demanding workloads such as gaming and AI processing.
Battery
Both Pro models receive improvements in battery life, with the iPhone 18 Pro offering up to 34 hours of video playback and the iPhone 18 Pro Max reaching up to 43 hours. The Pro Max provides up to six additional hours of video playback compared with the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max can reach up to 50% charge in around 15 minutes when paired with a compatible 60W-capable adapter or higher. With a 35W adapter or higher and a MagSafe Charger, they can reach up to 50% in around 30 minutes.
Software
The iPhone 18 Pro lineup arrives with iOS 27, bringing a redesigned software experience alongside Apple Intelligence and the new Siri AI.
Siri AI is designed to be more personal and capable, with access to a user's personal context and new capabilities across apps. Apple has also introduced features that allow Siri to understand what is on the screen and work more naturally with information across the user's device.
Apple C2 Modem
Apple has further reduced its reliance on third-party cellular hardware with its new C2 cellular modem. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max feature Apple's in-house C2 modem system, which works with the A20 Pro to deliver AI-powered improvements to cellular quality and reliability.
Apple says the C2 modem can provide up to 50% faster upload speeds in selected markets compared with the previous C1X modem, while also using less battery. Both Pro models also feature Apple's N1 wireless networking chip, supporting Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread connectivity.
iPhone Duo
After years of anticipation, Apple has finally entered the foldable smartphone market with the iPhone Duo. It features a 5.4-inch outer Super Retina XDR display and a 7.6-inch inner Super Retina XDR folding display, offering users a larger canvas for viewing content, gaming, and multitasking. Both displays support ProMotion, Always-On functionality, and up to 3,000 nits of peak outdoor brightness.
Powered by the A20 Pro chip and iOS 27, the Duo brings Apple's performance and AI capabilities to its first foldable form factor. It features a 48MP Fusion Main camera with an integrated optical-quality 2x telephoto and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera. The camera system also supports macro photography, Smart Take, and Duo Preview, while the foldable design introduces new ways to take photographs and videos.
The large inner display enables more comfortable multitasking, document editing, gaming, and video calling. Apple has also introduced a new FaceTime camera beneath the inner display, while the two-screen design allows users to preview photographs and interact with the camera in new ways.
The Duo uses a dual-battery architecture and offers up to 31 hours of video playback when using the inner display and up to 44 hours when using the outer display. When both displays are used equally, Apple rates the device for up to 24 hours of usage per charge. It can reach up to 50% charge in around 20 minutes, while wireless charging can reach up to 50% in around 30 minutes with a compatible MagSafe or Qi2 charger.
The Duo also features Apple's N1 wireless networking chip with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread, alongside the C2 cellular modem. It is an eSIM-only device worldwide, with Apple highlighting support from carriers including Airtel, Jio, and Vi in India.
Price and Availability
Apple has confirmed India as one of the first markets to receive the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Pre-orders for both models will begin on September 12 at 5:30 PM IST, with availability starting September 18 through the Apple Store, the Apple Store app, and authorized retailers.
In India, the iPhone 18 Pro starts at ₹164,900, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at ₹179,900. Both models are available in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB storage configurations. Apple is also offering payment options, including no-cost EMI and instant cashback on eligible purchases.
The iPhone Duo, Apple's first foldable iPhone, follows a separate launch timeline in India. Pre-orders will begin on October 16, with availability starting October 23. The Duo starts at ₹299,900 for the 256GB model and is available in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB configurations.
For Indian buyers, this means the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will be available much earlier than the foldable Duo, giving consumers the option to choose between a conventional Pro upgrade in September and Apple's new foldable experience in October.
