Every Delhiite carries a small edible archive of growing up. A Parle-G dunked in chai. The cheeni malai toast from a school canteen. A badly cooked but happily eaten bowl of Maggi at midnight. Lately, chefs across the city have started raiding this archive on purpose, plating those memories with the kind of finesse usually reserved for tasting menus. Here are five Delhi NCR spots doing it well right now.
Farzi Cafe, Connaught Place: Parle-G Cheesecake
Every Indian kid’s first biscuit gets a proper glow up here. Farzi Cafe sandwiches a cheesecake between two whole Parle-G biscuits and sets it swimming in chilled rabri, so the dessert reads as tea time snack and restaurant showpiece at once. It has stayed on the menu long enough to become something of a modern classic at the restaurant, sitting alongside newer nostalgia driven additions such as the Tres Leches Rasmalai.

Comorin, Golf Course Road, Gurugram: Cheeni Malai Toast
Run by EHV International, the same house behind Indian Accent, Comorin turns the humble after school toast, bread slathered in sweetened malai, into something a lot more deliberate. It arrives crisp at the edges and soft at the centre, the kind of dish one Mumbai review called wickedly nostalgic even for people who think they are too full for dessert. It is one of the restaurant’s signature desserts, popular enough that it travelled along when the brand opened its Mumbai outpost in May 2025, so it is a safe bet on the Gurugram menu too.

Galli Gully Cafe, Zamrudpur: Keema Maggi
Opened in 2025 by Meenakshi Kumar, the founder of the well loved Roots Cafe, this tiny street food joint takes the two minute noodles every Indian kid grew up sneaking in between homework and cricket, and folds in spiced minced meat to turn a snack into a full, hearty plate. The rest of the menu runs on the same logic, with Bun Maska and Chutney Bhujia, Aloo Tikki with Green Apple Chutney and a Gully Chicken Roll with gunpowder mayo, proof that elevated does not have to mean expensive.
Where: Zamrudpur, near Greater Kailash I. Cost for two: no official figure is published, but the menu of rolls, fries and chaat is priced like street food, so expect a modest bill.
INJA, Friends Colony West: Shiso Leaf, Tuna and Pomelo Chaat
Set inside The Manor Hotel, in the same space that once housed Indian Accent, INJA blends Indian street food instincts with Japanese kitchen technique under chef Adwait Anantwar. The restaurant was ranked 87th on Asia’s 50 Best in 2025, and its most talked about plate is the Shiso Leaf, Tuna and Pomelo Chaat, crisp tempura shiso leaf topped with chilled tuna and pomelo, sharpened with tamarind ponzu and the crunch of jhakiya seeds, a dish that reads as Benaras and Tokyo at once.

Nukkad Cafe and Bar, Kailash Colony: Street Food in a 90s Time Capsule
Founded by Kanishk Tuteja, Nukkad built its name on 90s nostalgia, and the Kailash Colony outlet leans into that with murals, warm lantern light and a spacious alfresco area done up in brightly coloured chairs, tables and sofas, what the founder calls an homage to the simpler elements in life. The food follows the same instinct, running through Indian street food staples alongside comfort dishes like dal makhni and Bihari meat, all served with a wink rather than a straight face.

These five spots take dishes most of us grew up eating without much thought, and treat them as worth a second look. None of it replaces the original version, whether that’s a biscuit dunked in tea or two-minute noodles eaten off a hostel stove, but it offers a different way to revisit it, with more attention to technique and presentation than the moment usually got the first time around.
