A wedding leaves a few things behind long after the last song is played and the lights are turned off: a photograph, a piece of jewelry, a handwritten note, and perhaps now, a watch. In a land like India where a wedding is as much about heritage as it is about celebration, heirlooms are a way of carrying stories across generations. Two names synonymous with Indian luxury are putting a decidedly contemporary spin on that idea this season.
Titan's Nebula and renowned couturier Tarun Tahiliani have collaborated to launch Phool Chadar, an exclusive collection of luxury timepieces that combines couture, fine watchmaking and Indian craftsmanship. This limited-edition collection, designed by Tahiliani and manufactured by Nebula, takes traditional elements of Indian ornament and transforms them into sculptural timepieces that are heirlooms in their own right.
Where Fashion Meets Time
Fundamentally, the Phool Chadar is its namesake – the traditional floral canopy, a symbol of joy, blessings and togetherness. The collection lifts this evocative image from its ceremonial origins, and translates its spirit into intricate details across a series of 18K gold timepieces.
Tahiliani's distinctive design language is immediately recognizable. The watches are visually rich with couture and feature sculptural floral forms, intricate jaali patterns, Polki-inspired embellishments, Chandak detailing and a gold with an antique finish. But behind their ornamental faces is precision fine watchmaking, with Swiss and in-house mechanical movements powering select editions. The result is jewelry that tells time. And timepieces with the presence of jewelry.
An India Inspired Collection
Phool Chadar is a story of four unique creations – Gulistan, Kyaari, Kalli and Mandala – each inspired by a different facet of India’s visual and craft heritage. Together they explore the language of nature, architecture and ceremonial adornment, but retain a distinctly modern silhouette.
Among the most exclusive pieces are Gulistan and Kyaari, with only 40 pieces of each. Priced at ₹24 lakh, the Gulistan features intricate Chandak detailing on its bezel, first bracelet link and buckle along with English uncut Polki diamonds with rhodium backing.
Kyaari, ₹19.5 lakh Kyaari derives its form from the sculptural shape of a kada. English uncut Polki, rhodium backing and intricate rava work make the watch as much an ornament as a feat of fine jewelry and haute horology.
Bridal Statements to Casual Sophistication
Versatility is also celebrated in the collection. The Kalli Bracelet, priced at ₹15.7 lakh, is inspired by zardozi embroidery with twisted-rope detailing, adjustable bracelet links and a jewelry clasp with a safety chain.
For those who appreciate the understated luxury of leather, Kalli Leather offers a more muted option at ₹5.85 lakh. Diamonds, rubellite and onyx set in white topaz crown. Italian calf leather strap with Zermatt lining.
The Mandala is a more modern addition to the collection and costs ₹3.8 lakh. Its green aventurine dial is adorned with partaj and rava work and is complemented with an Italian calf leather strap.
A Signature For Men
Bringing the TT Signature Men’s Edition, priced at ₹6 lakh, the collaboration goes beyond bridal and womenswear-inspired aesthetics. Here, the signature jaali motif of Tahiliani is reinterpreted through Nebula’s in-house mechanical watchmaking.
This hand-wound timepiece features an etched mother-of-pearl jaali dial, TT monogram indices and dual-finish double center lugs. Refined character is complemented by an 18K gold onion crown and a genuine alligator leather strap with Zermatt lining. It also features a gold caseback with a 316L stainless steel center case, blending precious materials with modern engineering.
Created to be Heirlooms
What makes Phool Chadar particularly apt for India’s wedding season is its reverence for the sentimental value of items exchanged during milestone moments in life. These are not just watches made for a season or a single party. They are modern heirlooms, pieces that can go with a bride or groom today and eventually become part of a family’s story.
Titan and Tarun Tahiliani’s Nebula has brought together two Indian luxury houses with different yet complementary legacies to create something that lies at the intersection of fashion, jewelry and horology. Phool Chadar celebrates the richness of Indian craftsmanship and gives it a new form, not just to mark time, but preserve it. And perhaps, the most suitable luxury for a wedding is something lovely enough for the moment, yet meaningful enough to last beyond it.
