The long-awaited cricket festival called the Indian Premier League (IPL) has begun. In this tournament which lasts for over 2 months, 10 teams compete for one trophy. Each team plays a series of matches in the league stage, and the top four teams qualify for the playoffs, which consist of Qualifier 1, the Eliminator, Qualifier 2, and the Final.
The IPL is not just any tournament but the biggest franchise-based domestic T20 league in the world, where players from around the globe take part. Alongside some of the biggest international and national cricketers, Indian domestic players get the opportunity to showcase their abilities to the world. Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Sanju Samson, and Rishabh Pant all rose to fame after successful IPL stints.
Continuing its role as a platform for emerging talent, the last couple of years’ tournaments have brought several local domestic players into the spotlight. These young cricketers have shown their potential and are now looking to make their names in the Indian cricket team. Here are five names that TMM India found very promising.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi (Rajasthan Royals) — The Phenomenon from Bihar
The young prodigy has taken the cricket world by storm, and his achievements and journey so far are nothing short of inspirational. Born in Bihar, he started playing cricket at the age of four. His passion for the game prompted his father to devote his life to supporting his training. Even if it meant selling a piece of land, he made that sacrifice.
All of his hard work and sacrifices came to fruition in November 2024, when he became the youngest player to sign an Indian Premier League contract at the age of 13 for ₹1.1 crore. His debut match was against the Lucknow Super Giants, and he was only 14 years old, which made him the youngest debutant. The first ball he played went for a six, and he scored a quickfire 34 runs off just 20 balls in that innings. Later, against the Gujarat Titans, he played an explosive innings of 101 runs in just 38 balls, taking only 35 balls to complete his century and becoming the youngest cricketer to achieve this milestone.
Beyond the IPL, he guided India U19 to World Cup glory in early 2026, finishing as the Player of the Tournament with a blistering 175 off 80 balls in the final against England U19.
Ayush Mhatre (Chennai Super Kings) — The Composed Prodigy
Ayush Mhatre, a promising cricketer and U19 World Cup-winning captain, joined the CSK team at the age of 17 when Ruturaj Gaikwad, the CSK captain, got injured. His journey was filled with struggle and a busy commute, as he travelled 80 km daily from Virar to Churchgate to train near Wankhede Stadium. The support of his family and the help of his coaches improved his game over time.
He scored a century in just his third Ranji Trophy match and also set a List A record with 181 runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, becoming the youngest to score 150+ in an innings. He played seven matches and accumulated 240 runs, maintaining a batting average of 34.29 and a strike rate of 188.97 for CSK when they were struggling to find their form in the powerplay and had one of the lowest run rates in the first six overs.
Priyansh Arya (Punjab Kings) — The Six-Hitting Left-Hander
The 23-year-old’s 39-ball century for the Punjab Kings against the Chennai Super Kings made the headlines. It was the second-fastest IPL hundred by an Indian batter after Rajasthan Royals’ Yusuf Pathan did it in 37 balls in 2010.
Bought for ₹3.8 crore, Priyansh Arya repaid every rupee with a brilliant debut season. Arya consistently gave Punjab strong starts and ended with 475 runs, playing a key role in PBKS’s dream run to the finals.
Sai Sudharsan (Gujarat Titans) — The Technically Brilliant Southpaw
Sai Sudharsan, the talented Indian left-handed batter, was named the Emerging Cricketer of the Year 2025. Known for his elegant strokeplay and consistency, Sudharsan scored 759 runs at an average of 54.21 in IPL 2025. Over 15 matches, his highest score was an unbeaten 108, reflecting his ability to anchor the innings and accelerate when needed. His tally included 88 fours and 21 sixes, showing his capability to find the boundary consistently.
One of the most technically sound young batters in the IPL, Sudharsan’s calm batting and quick adaptation to different formats make him one to watch – a perfect blend of patience and aggression.
Vignesh Puthur (Rajashthan Royals) — The Chinaman Sensation
Vignesh Puthur, the left-arm Chinaman bowler from Kerala, took IPL 2025 by storm. His debut match against Chennai Super Kings was spectacular — he picked up three wickets, dismissing Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, and Deepak Hooda, and even received praise from MS Dhoni after the match.
With mystery spinners becoming increasingly valuable in T20 cricket, Vignesh’s unique skill set makes him an exciting prospect. His variations and ability to extract turn even on batting-friendly surfaces made him one of the standout bowlers of the season. An injury, unfortunately, cut his season short.
