Zendaya has spent weeks turning the press tour for The Odyssey into a moving tribute to Greek mythology. At the film's New York premiere on July 14, held at AMC Lincoln Square, she took that theme to its most dramatic point yet, walking the carpet in a gown built with actual wings.
A dress with wings
The gown came from Matieres Fecales, the Paris-based label founded by Hannah Rose Dalton and Steven Raj Bhaskaran. Called Ange Arc, it first appeared as the finale look on the brand's runway during Paris Fashion Week in March 2025. The design has an asymmetrical strapless neckline and a high slit, and its most striking feature sits at the back: a set of full-length feathered wings in soft ivory.
Zendaya plays Athena in Christopher Nolan's adaptation of The Odyssey, and the winged silhouette read as a direct nod to her character, the goddess of wisdom and war. Some observers compared the wings to the ancient sculpture Winged Victory of Samothrace, while others noted a resemblance to Victoria's Secret runway wings, though styled in a far more sculptural and couture way.
She paired the dress with sculptural white shoes and dazzling diamond earrings from Chopard's Haute Joaillerie collection. Her longtime stylist Law Roach put the look together, continuing the mostly white and ivory palette she has favoured throughout this particular press tour.
Two looks in one night
Before she ever reached the red carpet, Zendaya stepped out of her hotel in a completely different outfit. She wore a Pamella Roland gown in antique gold pleated silk chiffon from the label's Fall 2026 collection, finished with Rene Caovilla heels and jewellery from Tiffany and Co. She then changed into the winged Matieres Fecales gown for the carpet itself.
Later that night, after the screening, she changed back into the gold Pamella Roland gown to leave the after party with her husband Tom Holland, who wore a brown Fear of God suit through the evening. The quick costume change between arrival, red carpet, and departure has become part of how Zendaya approaches major premieres, treating each stage of the night as its own moment.
Why it worked
The Odyssey, Nolan's retelling of Homer's epic poem, follows Odysseus, played by Matt Damon, on his long journey home after the Trojan War. The New York crowd watched the film in IMAX 70mm at Lincoln Square, the only theatre in the city equipped to show it in that format.
Zendaya was joined on the carpet by co-stars including Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong'o, and Charlize Theron, several of whom also leaned into the film's Greek setting with their own looks. But it was Zendaya's wings that became the defining image of the night, a reminder of why she is often called one of the sharpest dressers working the press tour circuit today.
